E5: Using Consumer Law to Protect Tenants Part II: Developments in Tenant Screening (Video)

Issued:

Date
2021

Description

The COVID-19 economic crisis has exacerbated the existing housing crisis, with many low- and moderate-income tenants struggling to access rental housing. Many landlords, relying on tenant screening reports from third-party companies, reject potential tenants due to eviction case filings, alleged rental debt, and/or their credit score. This session will consider recent proposed and enacted state legislation to lessen these barriers to rental housing and discuss recent developments in tenant screening case law.
