Description
The existing rental housing crisis in America has worsened due to the COVID-19 crisis. Many low-and moderate-income tenants have faced or will face eviction in the wake of the pandemic. This session will discuss some of the longer term consequences of these evictions for renters, including how the use of eviction records and tenant screening reports to assess "eligibility" for housing shuts people--often tenants of color and Black women in particular--out of housing. This session also will address policy and litigation solutions (including FCRA claims) to this aspect of the housing crisis, as well as other problems with tenant screening.
