Richard Rothschild is the Director of Litigation for the Western Center on Law and Poverty, the state support center for California’s legal services programs. The Western Center litigates and engages in policy advocacy on behalf of low-income Californians, with emphasis on health, housing, public benefits, and access to justice. Among Mr. Rothschild’s honors are the 2008 State Bar of California’s Loren Miller Legal Services Award, the highest honor bestowed by the Bar for public interest attorneys; the 2012 Shattuck-Price Award (the Los Angeles County Bar Association’s highest honor); the National Legal Aid Association’s 2015 annual Kutak-Dodds Prize; and the 2022 Earl Johnson Equal Justice Award. Mr. Rothschild received his B.A. from Yale University and his J.D. from the University of Southern California Gould School of Law; and was a law clerk for California Supreme Court Justice Stanley Mosk.
