Lisa Stifler serves as Deputy Director of State Policy at the Center for Responsible Lending. She works with diverse local stakeholders, lawmakers, and regulators seeking to eliminate predatory small dollar and student lending practices as well as abusive debt collection practices in the states and at the federal level. Lisa also co-leads CRL’s work debt collection, and she brings additional policy expertise on small dollar lending and student lending. She has authored several articles and research reports on the impact of predatory lending, abusive debt collection, and student lending on individuals and communities and the importance of state and federal policymakers in addressing these issues.
Prior to joining CRL, Lisa worked in the civil rights, community economic development, and bankruptcy fields. She also worked and volunteered for more than six years as an advocate for survivors of domestic violence. Lisa received dual law and social work degrees from the University of North Carolina and her BA from Middlebury College in Middlebury, VT.
