Highlight Updates First Questions

To determine the relief to which a homeowner may be entitled after a natural disaster, one must first address several questions:

  • ● Is the home located in a disaster area? FEMA has a website that provides information about whether a particular address is included:
  • ● Who owns the mortgage? First Heritage Mortgage's website (among others) provides instruction on how to determine whether Fannie Mae or Freddie Mac owns the mortgage. If the loan does not appear there, and the mortgage documents do not indicate that the loan was government-insured or government-guaranteed by the FHA, VA, or the Rural Housing Service, then the loan is likely to be a private label mortgage.
