About the Authors

Robert J. Hobbs, a co-editor, is an NCLC staff attorney and its deputy director. He has been writing and consulting since 1972 on fair debt collection and other consumer credit issues. Prior to that, he was a staff attorney with New Orleans Legal Assistance. He is the author of Fair Debt Collection and co-author of The Practice of Consumer Law. He advises attorneys on their elderly clients’ fair debt collection claims, was counsel to amicus curiae in Heintz v. Jenkins, 514 U.S. 291 (1995), has served on the FRB’s Consumer Advisory Council, and is a founder and former board member and treasurer of the National Association of Consumer Advocates. He helps coordinate NCLC’s annual Consumer Rights Litigation Conference, including the 2015 conference to be held in San Antonio, Texa, and the Fair Debt Collection Practices Training Conference, in March 2015, in Washington D.C.

Jeremiah Battle, Jr., a co-editor, is an NCLC staff attorney focusing on predatory lending and foreclosure prevention issues, author of Credit Discrimination and contributing author to Unfair and Deceptive Acts and Practices and to Repossessions. He also works on NCLC’s Working Cars for Working Families initiative. Previously, he was a staff attorney with Northeast New Jersey Legal Services where he focused on predatory mortgage foreclosure and public benefits issues.
